March 23, 2019, London
I went in the People’s Vote march yesterday in the centre of London. Until a few days ago I wasn’t sure I would attend because I get a bit anxious in large crowds but I thought it was crucial to go to fight for the future and a fairer, more open and more tolerant society – to wrest control of Brexit from the Government. I’m very much pro-European union, despite its flaws, and I wanted to take part in the historic moment with relatives and friends. It showed me I could achieve it despite Parkinson’s, and I should point out that there were a good number of other people there with more severe mobility problems than myself – I take my hat off to them. To be part of a crowd of perhaps 1 million people is impossible to describe.
Summer 2018, Mallorca
Approaching summer 2018, one of my worries was whether I would have the strength to climb the Puig de Maria hill in Mallorca. When we go to see family there, we always try to make time to walk up the hill, 400 metres high and approached by a small winding road and path, and to stay the night in simple accommodation in the old Monastery.
My objective was to complete the walk, and these photos show what happened. Onward and upward! Just so you know, it was late afternoon and the temperature was 35°C.
