World Parkinson’s Day 2020

Today, Saturday 11 April, is World Parkinson’s Day. Although many of the planned events have been cancelled because of COVID-19, the day and the week are still being used to raise awareness about Parkinson’s.

One of the features is an interactive map containing stories of many people who live with Parkinson’s.

If I were to highlight one feature of my Parkinson’s that I would like people to know, it would be that I just need a little more time to adjust to things and to plan any activity. This may be frustrating for me and for you, and sometimes things go wrong. By all means ask if I need help (I will accept if I need it) but don’t assume I can’t do a task. Be patient; I will usually get there in the end.

World Parkinson’s Day 2019

World Parkinson’s day is April 11 each year. It is the birthday of James Parkinson, who in his “Essay on the shaking palsy”, published in 1817, was the first to identify what became known as Parkinson’s disease. To rephrase Billy Connolly, I wish the man had kept it to himself.

Parkinson’s awareness week 2019

Parkinson’s awareness week runs from April 10 to April 16, 2019. It seeks to raise awareness about Parkinson’s disease, which affects around 130,000 people in the UK and 14 million worldwide. The organisation Parkinson’s UK, amongst others, funds continuing research into a cure; it reaches out and helps people who suffer from the condition and their relatives and friends who support them.
