Five Basic Exercises to Keep Fit During the COVID-19 Crisis

As a person with Parkinson’s disease, I know how important it is to exercise. During the current lockdown in London because of the COVID-19 virus, I’m trying to follow a daily routine of five basic exercises as championed by the Royal Canadian Air Force in the 1950s. I hope the video gives you an idea of what it is. Apologies for the poor audio quality.

The original 1950s video can be seen at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMGQzMjeO1k and a list of the exercises at http://fit450.com/HTML/5BX_Intro.html.

In your blog you write about the daily circumstances which one has to deal with when having Parkinson’s and I see that many people cheer you on for being brave or courageous. Now I would like to express the feeling of someone who is only occasionally involved in that routine, but truly affected by it.
When someone you feel affection for is going through a bad time, one faces the sensation of unease/insecurity caused by one’s own lack of response. And then, there is nothing more relieving than feeling able to be of help, to be told what the person needs/wants from you and thus reduce the anxiety of the “can I do anything to help?”.
As a witness of this disease, and even if it sounds a bit self-concerned, I must say that what I find really brave and courageous is this attitude of asking for help, because it shows the mental strength to seek assistance to overcome difficulty and, moreover, thoughtfulness towards those who are close to you.

    Dear Jeremy,
Thank you so much for posting this, I’m sure these exercises are also good for anybody confined to small spaces at the moment.
I’m glad to see you in good spirits and good shape. Keep safe!

    Greetings from the Polish spring,
    Lucyna
